Kick Ass Research

Batman

The original Batman character had an alter ego, Bruce Wayne who was millionaire, playboy, industrialist and philanthropist. He may have decided to be Batman becausehis parents were shot and murdered infront of him. He has a bat cave underneath his mansion where he creates his costume etc. He is 'Batman' because he has a fear of bats from when he fell down the bat cave when he was younger. So he took his fear to scare other people.

Some of Batman's enemies are; The Joker, Penguin, Poison Ivy, Mr Freeze and (sort of) Catwoman.

DC created the Batman comics. The comic books were dark and mysterious but when Adam West re-created the character he made the character and the story a lot more funny and camp to a wider audience. In the comic strips when there was a fight scene the artist would use words like 'pow' to show the sound effects, this was carried on in Adam West's TV programme.

The costumes are very similar in the comics, TV programmes and films. The TV programme's had Batman in grey fabric with 'underwear' over the top, whereas the films adapted to that to make him seem darker. The films have made the costumes a lot more darker and, obviously, the special effects are a lot more effective. The films make the whole story and characters a lot more dark, this clip is from The Dark Knight:

Kick Ass copys a lot of Batman with the costumes, Hit Girl and Big Daddy's costumes are very simelar to batmans costume, from the comic, TV and film.

Pre Production

When planning to film the music video there were things we needed to take into account such as safety and continuity.

Safety was a really important factor to take into account when planning the music video. The first thing I thought of was that there could be loose wires from the camera, this was cared for by just checking around when acting so nobody fell over. There were sheets of paper and books also included in the video so people had to be safe and make sure they didn't get any papercuts. Girls in the video were chewing gum when filming so they had to make sure they were safe and didn't choke on it. When the projector was used there was a vital rule not to look directly into the light because it is powerful enough to blind you, so people had to be safe when the projector was on. When the three boys used guitars when filming and had to jump in the air with them, they had other people around them so they had to be careful not to hit themselves, each other, or the dancers behind them, they also had to make sure the strap was firm to stop the guitar falling on their feet. People used pens and pencils during this music video as well, so when they used them they had to to be careful n ot to stab themslves. When Harley (who played Matt) dropped his pencil on the floor he had to be careful to hit his toes, and when Vicky (who played the teacher) bent down to pick the pencil up she had to bend her knees to be careful not to hurt he back and also not to stab herself. She also wore high heels so when she had to walk up and the isles between the desks she had to be careful not to fall and hurt herself. When she walks down and runs her nails down Neil's (James') arm she had to be sure not to sratch him. When Harley (Matt) has to barge through a group of students he had to make sure he didn't push them too hard and the people being pushed knew when he came through so they were prepared.
